Towards a new food labelling system for sustainable food production and healthy responsible consumption: The Med Index Checklist

By 2024, the European Commission will examine a new sustainable labeling framework. Here we describe development of food product system, named Mediterranean Index (Med Index), aimed at promoting adherence to diet (healthy and nutritional pattern) by stimulating citizens practice physical activity consistent with energy intake meals encouraging producers make healthier more products. It is characterized possibility integrating 27 criteria addressing issue production processes in frame three pillars: nutritional, environmental, social sustainability. conceived as holistic front-of-pack (FOP) label, complete applicable it based on measurable criteria, widely shared stakeholders, but usually adopted an individual basis.
